Television

These are highly-quality programs that entertain and enlighten.

The Big Bang Theory – What I love about this program is that it shows how a diverse group of people, who probably wouldn’t have been friends in high school, have deep, meaningful friendships as adults.  Even though they royally annoy each other at times, they work through it to the point where they appreciate the differences in each other that make them unique.

Finding Your Roots – Educator Henry Louis Gates Jr. has hosted several PBS series that examine U.S. history. In Finding Your Roots, the Harvard professor continues his quest to “get into the DNA of American culture.” In each episode, celebrities view ancestral histories, sometimes learn of connections to famous/infamous people, discover secrets, and share the emotional experience with viewers. Analyzing genetic code, DNA diagnosticians trace bloodlines and occasionally debunk long-held beliefs.

Oprah’s Master Class – Master Class tells the stories you’ve never heard from the people you thought you knew best. Hand-picked by Oprah Winfrey for their unique impact on the world, true modern masters from Academy Award-winning actors, to Grammy-winning musicians, to ground-breaking athletes, share the greatest lessons they’ve learned along the way. In an intimate setting, they share their successes, their failures, their triumphs, disappointments and heartbreaks.

Somebody Feed Phil – Phil Rosenthal travels around the world to places such as Bangkok, Tel Aviv, Florence, Cape Town and New Orleans, all while trying amazing food and meeting friendly people. He also learns the history of the food and each place he visits.  Phil is so friendly and engaging, and he gets his audience excited about travel.

SuperSoul Sunday – The Emmy award-winning daytime series delivers insight and inspiration from renowned thought leaders to awaken viewers to their best selves and discover a deeper connection to the world around them. Each week, enjoy mind-nourishing conversations between Oprah and top thinkers, authors and spiritual luminaries.

Who Do You Think You Are? – This show follows the journeys of some of the most well-known names in American popular culture. Watch as celebrities discover unknown details about themselves and their families while researching their ancestry with the help of historians and genealogical experts.
